Getting some new exhaust stacks made for my 1950 D25U. How tall should the diesel exhaust extend above the hood? And how tall should the pony exhaust extend above the hood?

I'd estimate the replacement tube I got from Cat at 3' but am not near it to get an accurate measurement

If your asking how the factory sent them out,I don't know :confused2:.

From what I have seen it's your choice, depends were and what your doing. I have a 9u D6 that had been in a olive grove, the exhaust was under the hood coming to the back with a curve shooting it out over the fender. For working in and around trees have seen many just above the hood. But if you don't have things trying to ripe the exhaust off I would recommend about a foot higher than your head or even a little more. Your ears and lungs will thank you.

Related topic the parts books have extension packages to raise the air cleaner inlet 4 or 5 foot higher to find cleaner air for the engine. But I don't remember anything in the parts book for extended exhaust pipe.

The pony exhaust has been 3 to 6 inches above the hood in any I have seen.

Hi Team,

Hope this helps.

3B6940 is the correct pipe. 2.5"x 26.50" $82.82 from Cat. Pony pipe should be about three inches above the hood. The diesel engine muffler, 3B6217, changes to 247-2671 $117.36 from Cat.

I believe that a approved muffler/spark arrester is required if you operate on most federal or state lands to prevent starting a fire.

This is exactly the measurements I have on old pipes, I prefer to use a spark arrestor and shorter piece of pipe.

I am with Ray 54 on this one, the stack should be well above your head if possible. We had an IH 4366 that had a very short stack, 18 inches or so, the cab air filters were black with soot every time we checked and the tractor did not smoke at all so we extended the stack above the cab no more problem. I was easy to see what we would have been breathing in.
