Im thinking of converting my DE D2 to pony start , seems it has a different Hood and dash and has a blanking plate over where the pinion would go, is the flywheel different it has a oil clutch if that makes any difference ??

The flywheel is different (5H5090). It has drain holes for the oil clutch. Shouldn't be a problem as it uses the same 93 tooth beveled ring gear as the pony start version.
