i have become bored with cats and took the only logical step towards
cranes. bought my first back in july, the hystaway on back the 4T D7.
never had any problems with the wind disturbing that machine.

six months later i found yet another specimen. a USMC koehring model
2N M66 with 315 hours on the meter. 3-71 detroit with an allison torque.
the only real issue is the glass needed replaced, and the boom stops are
missing. replaced the glass and got some measurements for the boom
stops. the wind came up, defied physics and now i need to replace one
window and have a bunch of mangled sheet metel. the block ended up
on the front window, but did not break that one. it must have went over
slow.

A few days ago, the news first reported a possible tornado South of Burns OR but that got changed to a microburst later. A few power poles got blown down (I'd guess around Rome or Lawen) and State 78 was closed for a while.

Tornadoes are rare (I saw one east of Mt Vernon a few years ago) but not unknown in Oregon and I've seen the results of several microbursts in the woods. Swaths of trees several hundred feet wide by up to over a quarter of a mile get snapped off, a few uprooted and all point in the same direction. These were trees in the 1 to 2 1/2 ft size. One such storm also dumped 2 1/2" diameter hail in 1996 locally, lots of broken windshields and lost of dents in vehicles.

Did the crane boom damage the IH combine? Maybe you should tie end of boom to D7.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
