What sort of power units and especially electric sets did Caterpillar offer prior to the start of the "diesel era" and the products we are all reasonably familiar with? I haven't been able to find much along those lines since that thought popped into my head the other day.
Any information, pictures, literature etc. related to this would be much appreciated
Interesting question, we’ve a few documents in the members Tech Library with gasoline power units. But I don’t know of a definitive list or chronology of these..
I have a couple early (1930s) CAT gas power unit engines out in the field that were originally in John Deere combines (31A I believe). The radiator/fan sits behind the engine with fan shaft running back over the top of the engine. Before the fire I had the original JD 31A manuals that showed the Cat engines but never used the CAT name, only the CAT part numbers.
If interested I have about 90 of these old spec sheets for sale
Hi QuAD, I'd be interested in spec sheets for the D13000 and D339.
QuAD, that's quite the collection. Would you consider taking a front and back good quality photo of each brochure that we may add to the library, since you have them all in one place at the moment? I'd be willing to make a donation for your time.
How much for the D 17000 spec sheets? don't need doubles just single ones.
I second that it would be great for high quality scans of those spec sheets to make their way into the library.
Is it safe to say that Caterpillar never offered an electric set with a gasoline engine?
Hi Casey, as well as the one that Josh posted (and others you can see in the photos whose model identifiers are appended with a "G"), Cat still makes spark-ignition generators and industrial engines. They usually run on natural gas or landfill gas though. I'm not aware of any that are designed, out of the factory, to run on gasoline although it wouldn't be hard to convert them with a modified ECU and a set of injectors
