I don't reckon its an RD8 Gordon, much later than that, probably a 2U series from the late forties early fifties, although not one of the last 2U series, you will find the serial number on the bottom flange of the cylinder block, left hand front, close to the timing case joint.

I've modified my ideas a bit Gordon, it is more likely to be mid forties and possibly a late 1H or early 2U, perhaps some else can tell us when the 'gate change' was discontinued.

I think because of the front idler being solid it is a late 2U as early 2U were spoked
single bonnet? not hinged down the middle would also say it is a 2U
Also the cast piece that bolts onto the front idler and onto the outer rail is 2U
Then D8 13A had a solid front idler also and that started 1953

Another point the hydraulic blade cylinder support group suggest it is post 2U 15001 up as per a parts manual I have

Does it have a single piece bonnet or Hood

I see it has the old "slide shift" so it could be a very early 2U all the way back to a 1H with a lot of upgrades. I have no books any more but the first 12 to 15 hundred 2U's had the slide shift.

The large oil filters, hyd. hard nose, CAT CCU all, in some way, say later model than a 1H or 8R.

Only things I can spot for sure puts it between 1H1350 (tall injector pumps) and 2U5306 (end of slide bar 194😎. Everything else mentioned could fit this range. Something strange about that oil filter base, could be later engine in early chassis.

The 8R parts manual does show the hydraulic hardnose arrangement but even that could be a conversion.

I’m with Old 3T lover. It’s a “slide bar” and could go all the way back to the 1H. But I think it’s is a later D8, the steering clutch handles are of a later tractor. The hood and radiator/dozer shroud are of a later model, It seems they have cut a piece out of the dozer/radiator shroud…..maybe to make it fit up, making one to think it was not meant of that tractor. Interesting anyway.

it looks to be an 8R! could be a 5000 2U like old magnet says. i have never seen a 1H with the short injection pump? i do not have a 1H book. my 8R has the solid rollers and the heavy fenders like that machine.
