Doing some maintenance projects on the D8 14a. One of the things on my list is that I have a sticky RH brake pedal. Time to fix it since the snow is slowly melting here in eastern ND, and farming is a couple weeks away yet.
I found that if you pull up the floor boards there is a grease zerk on each pedal for the needle bearings on the pedal pivot. Ididnt know there were zerks there. I had to pull the whole pedal assembly out, as I think the prior owner didn't know there was grease points there either. Seals shot. Needles full of dirt and worn flat. Shaft worn too. Had to use lots of lube a a decent size hammer to get the shaft out of the pedal bearings. I'm going to order new bearing and seals and make a new shaft. I have regulary greased the rest of the linkage through the access panels.
I guess I need to read my operators book more closely. I have had the cat for only 18 years.....oooofff-da.
CAT was $11 each for the 4 needle bearings. Not bad these days. Got them ordered through Butler. But they wanted $33 each for the 4 thin grease seals, I ordered some aftermarket ones. Will see what they look like when they show up. The pivot shaft is no longer available, but I had some mystery metal shaft that was the correct diameter and a decent surface finish. I will try to post a picture when going back together.
