Couple of weeks ago I asked about accessing Conrods through the side plates on my old 47A. Water had filled 1 and 2 from a head issue. Both pistons have enough damage on top to warrant replacement. I tried to go through the side plates but next to impossible. Ccjersy suggested jacking up the engine. Initially it didn’t look promising. Today I tackled it again. I took the dash console off and dropped out the jack shaft, removed some hoses etc and undone all engine mount bolts. I jacked up the front off the engine and spaced it out with 50mm RHS. Then slung a sling under the back of sump. Attached it to a endless chain in the canopy and got it up at the back 50mm as well. I undone the sump bolts then dropped it down under control with an endless chain and sling. I’ve got the front down heaps I can access number 1 and 2 no worries. The back of the sump is still sitting up on the hard bar but is down a good couple of inches. I reckon with a bit of a juggle I could get it out. In the manual it says one piece sumps need to have the engine out, I thought I would try this first, so far it looks like ill be able to do what I need still in frame. So thought you would like to know it is possible. Cheers.
