Been putting it off for a bit but when you shut the dozer down the fan shouldnt take longer to wind down than the turbo does. I have a feeling it is just not going to be fun. I was curious if any oldtimes had tricks/tools for belt idler adjustment or is it just a time consuming slow project. Thanks in advance.

okay....lol...the early 7's had a different tensioner than the later ones, check the rubber bushing on the tension pulley arm assembly, if they go bad it will throw the belts off, even new ones! You may have to lower the first crankcase guard an inch or so, the one under the radiator to get the belts on the crank pulley.

Thanks rome for the reply... mine is staying on i just dont have any adjustment left and the rubber is old and hard and wont grip pullys any more. My tensioner bushings seemed to be good it is just a pain to get to the 5 holding bolts that have to be loosened before adjusting the top adjusting bolt and didnt know if it was faster to drop belly pan and get to it from the bottom or take the generator off and reach it from the side?

Yer welcome. Oh ok, yea I would remover the generator to get in there, but still might have to lower the front pan to get the belts on the crank pulley.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
