I need to rebuild the hydraulic blade cylinder on my D6 8U. The blade will raise quickly but leaks down in less than a minute. I've referenced the parts book for the No. 6A & No. 6S bulldozer but I'm still having a hard time determining which seals/parts I need. The id plate is missing on the blade. The 8U has a 46 hydraulic assembly and looks to be original hydraulic cylinders. The tractor is an 8U serial #4213. Any suggestions?

Thanks

have you got it apart? is the chrome shaft or barrel damaged or is it just in need of seals.

if its just a seal replacement. your local hydraulics service should be able to help you and the dealer workshop would be able to help too.

are you sure it the rams and not the valve body in the pump. though I would try the rams first they are the simpler cheaper fix

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality

Seals in a ram tend to go bad much sooner than a control valve. Seals are much cheaper. But if you want to know for sure. With the hydraulic system cold cycle the blade up and let it drop a number of times, if the barrel of the cylinder heats up with just a few cycles, that is because the seal is leaking.

I have done the cylinders on my 9u blade, and don't remember it being anything other than a o ring.......................but the remembering is not what it use to be. I do remember the seal on the shaft leaving the barrel are V chevron rings and each side needs 4 to 8. Which makes it cost much more than a regular seal.
