liner protrusion has been discussed here before - perhaps a search will find it.
I can't help on that front but in terms of coating the head gasket, I made several enquiries and was told "yes you need to coat it otherwise it will seep" to "no, you don't need to" - depending on who you asked.
But after talking to a Land Rover expert, I ended up using Hylomar on my D4 head gasket - I figured it could not hurt anyway, and so far so good.
Use these specs and sealer:
I will do more digging in the older posts I found a couple last night. Any information on where to apply the permatex? Just apply it around the top of the liners or do you put some in the counter bore before you install the liner? Any chance the part numbers for the shims on your 3306 will work on the D315?
Use the sealer to just coat both sides of the head gasket. I would not use any in the counterbore. No go on 3306 shims...different bore size.
Thanks, my dad talked with an engine mechanic at a Cat dealer this morning and he said that once they went to the stainless steel ring rather than the copper ring they reduced the liner protrustion to 0.001 to 0.002 inch rather than 0.002 to 0.0056 inch. The mechanic also admitted that using an anerobic sealer on the top of the sleeve might not be a bad idea. He said all the Cat engines today just use that stainless steel ring to seal the sleeves.
How are people fixing liner protrusion? My dads liners vary from 0.002 to 0.006. According to what we have learned they should all be with in 0.002 of each other. Anyone machining sleeves down or do you get the counter bore in the block lowered?
