Looks like I will be needing a head gasket for a starting engine. Opened drain cock and quite a bit of coolant came out. Has been suspect for quite a while.

Is 6F4201 still a good number for a head gasket. thanks WF

Hi WF, I have 488-8155 as an alternative (I think - it's in the right column in my spreadsheet as the successor to 6F4201)

D2/D4 Pony motor head gaskets are still available from Caterpillar. I purchased a set last year.

Hi WF. Those gaskets are normally copper. If there is no obvious damage to it they can be anealled by heating then quenching. Might be worth a try. The water ports at the bottom are normally blocked aswell. Good luck, keep us posted on what you find.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
