Ok so I finally got my fuel system bleed and the valves adjusted correctly. Just double checked again to be sure. I had previously replaced the #2 injector because it was completely stopped up to start with. The exhaust valve on #2 was about 1/8" out of adjustment when I started. They are all set now. I have a more distinct pop now when it is running. If I crack open #2, it all stopped. I'm seeing gray smoke still with some black now also. I wish I could attach a video but anyway all valves are going up and down while it is running. Nothing seems to be broken or anything. No smoke is coming up out of the valves. They seem to be squirting oil correctly as they move up and down. It's just that pop or pinging sound with smoke out the exhaust on #2 unless I crack the injector then it goes away. It was actually harder to bleed #2 also. I had to crank several times to get enough pressure on it to free up the trapped air and bleed it. Anyway any advice is appreciated. It's getting warm here and I'm ready to use it if it will dry up.

1/8 inch out of adjustment is a lot and on number two to boot. i would guess that the valve seat on number two is burned.😖uspicious:

I wonder if it's just rust and gunk built up on that one and if I can spray something like penetrating oil to get the stuff off so it will seat right?

You could give that a shot and you could also remove the manifolds and dink around in there to see if you can see anything, but if it's a burnt valve seat, the job is typically handled by an engine rebuilder, who would cut the old seat out and fit a new seat and valve, and lap it. Requires sending the head in to the rebuilder

Would it work and not hurt anything to spray something like sea foam or another type into the precombustion chamber to see?

sea foam is great for cleaning up carbon. i agree that you can take off the manifold to see what you can of the valve. then you can spray sea foan deep creep directly on the valve.

I never believed in that crap, powders and liquids are not going to true valve seat surfaces and stem/bushing clearances or repair bad injector pumps and nozzles or repair worn parts. If its knocking and smoking or sputtering or coughing then there is a reason it got that way and will get worse.

sea foam won't fix a burnt valve but it wont hurt it either. if your lucky and there is just carbon causing trouble sea foam or some other carbon cleaner might work. if it doesn't then having the manifold off is just one step closer to pulling the head.
