D4 6U .. Starting Engine Pinion brake needs Adjustment

Hi Guys,
Sorry to ask, .... but I don't have a Service Manual that addresses the diesel engine starter pinion brake adjustment.

When I pull the lever back the pinion brake still works, but not as well as it used to.

Brake will usually still stop the pinion for a "no grind" engagement if I idle pony back as slow as possible .... but it needs help.

Info on adjustment would be appreciated.
Is the adjustment the same on a D2 4U as on the D4 6U?

oil level is very important also, 30w oil should be fine. some times the pinion seal will leak oil into the clutch housing.

If you want to try something a little less ambitious, drain the pinion oil and refill with ATF. It is not as thick and not as slick as motor oil, so it helps the brake and clutch work better. This allows the clutch to be adjusted looser and that makes the brake work better as well.
