Can anyone help with a diagram of this older carby ? 1946 8B 3917 979CA

The symptoms say I have too much fuel coming in. Can only start with throttle off , wet oily plugs , half cap full of fuel out of drain cocks on each pull. Pull after pull with no ignition. Magneto is giving plenty of good spark.

I opened the carby to find the jet has snapped. See on second pic it sits in the dark hole. I take it this controls the amount of flowing from the float chamber into the body. I assume screwing it down blocks flow, but then it has pin hole a few mm up it shaft to give minimal flow regardless. Having said that it was sitting in position and should of restricted flow ?

I need to buy that screw jet and a new top gasket - any advice on supplier that does postal.

Is that called a soft plug under the float chamber ? ( see last pic ) How do I remove that to make sure that passage is free of crud ?

Cheers - David

Thanks Bruce, I have emailed carburetor shop asking if that jet comes in the kit. I think I bought one from them about 5 years ago , but my memory has gone from smelling too much of this carby. Their codes rang a bell. Thanks for the image. It shows the soft plug I was asking about is lead. There are a couple of odd elbows coming off the carby in your image that I don't seem to have. See my pic in original post. Thanks again, David

Hi David,
scan below is from OMI and all there is of the early carb operation and views--there are no descriptions of the fuel flow etc as for the later carb-- also scanned for your perusal.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

The carburetor shop cannot help with the main jet adjustment screw. Any other sources ?

Thanks for the pics Eddie. It is that main jet #14 in your first pic. I cannot braze it back on that straight.

Is it hollow all the way up? The top section does not have to be hollow, so put a short piece of rod or wire in it to align it perfectly and then silver solder it up.

If it's solid, I would try to braze it and then straighten if necessary, or perhaps have one made on a lathe.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

It is hollow at the seat section with a pin hole in its side that accepts fuels in and drops it out its base to feed the carby. Ie: screw it down and less fuel gets into the side pin hole. So too complex to turn one up .

The top is solid, where it has snapped , but brazing it that straight as needed ?....... I guess length can vary as the screw can cope with that.

What about a piece of steel brake line tubing on the outside to hold it straight?
