Working on a story about some historic engines at the Museum of the Great Lakes. One is a Cat genset in the SS Col. James M. Schoonmaker.

It's a D364 V8 driving a 150KW generator that was a backup to the steam-powered main units. Got a couple of questions:

ONE: Production range of D364- Been researching but can't find the production range of the D364. I see it in a the 1955 Diesel Engine Catalog but it isn't in the 1960. I don't have anything complete between 1943 and 1955.

TWO: What year is the engine- Museum staff thinks the engine was installed in 1955. the engine number is 21B353 I think. The "B" is obscured but I'm pretty sure it's a "B". The BOM is 1H6975

Any anecdotes about the D364? I don't know much. Were they good, bad or so-so? I see they were offered as marine propulsion and for generators. Maybe other stuff.

Many thanks!

I show the 21B series starting in 1949 but my list ends in 1953. Looks like they may have gone as far as 1956/7??. My Rack Setting Chart info came out in 1957. Woodward Governed Generator Set good for 225 hp at 1200 rpm.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
