Does anyone know where to get a shifter boot for a D2 5U? I tried the dealer but no luck.
Or maybe someone knows of an alternative boot that works?
There was actually quite a bit of laughter over the phone when “my” parts tech announced to her teammates that I was looking for parts for a 1948 D2. But someone helped out, and they dug into the “legacy” database and did manage to find a few of the parts I was looking for. 👍
try a decktite they come in several sizes.https://deks.com.au/product-category/dektite-rubber/

I bought one for my 1949 4U about 5 years ago from Cat. If you create an account with Cat, you can order your own parts and pick them up at your local Cat store.
I too bought one from the dealer who had a good parts guy, since retired. That was back in 2014 so a whiles ago now unfortunately
I bought a shifter boot for my 7U D4 from Amazon, just search by part number.
So the parts diagram shows it as # 688528.
The dealer said it should be 8C 7436, but a general search shows that as a brake cylinder boot.
The boot for my 4u was 6B8528, but you should check the parts manual to make sure of the correct one for yours, as it could be different depending on your serial number.

Ah Hah! Thank you for sharing that the # has a B, that I thought was an 8.
Bingo! It popped right up on the Cat website. Thanks everyone!
most cat part numbers for this old gear the second character is a letter. an exception is the hand grips for clutch levers on the crawler tractors.

True sir. Part number is all the counter sales person needs. Most times he has it, on a few items he orders. But the days of just taking an item in and declaring you want one are gone. I’m not surprised the guys thought it was laughable. All on a simple item like this! Again thanks trainskid
