I want to fill a steering clutch compartment with diesel, but there is no plug in the bottom of either side of my D2 5U. What size is the plug?

I have to pull the engine and do crank/bearing work, and thought I might tackle the pony motor in the same project. SO, what is the most common reason a pony will pump out a pint of oil every time it starts the diesel? Oil almost flows out of the flywheel end seal and splatters out the breather, and maybe other places.

Pipe plugs 1/2 or 3/4. & needs rings,rebore, etc.

Grab the flywheel and give it a good shake up and down and in and out. If anything more than barely detectable movement then you need to plan on crankshaft bearings and seal as well as the piston, rings and cylinder problem it apparently has.

The cylinder sealing problem results in excessive blowby pressure in the crankcase and pushes the oil out of the loose bearings overwhelming the old seal.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time๐Ÿ˜„

Thanks for the info. I expected the blowby issue was in force. Guess I can measure the plug hole and look on a thread chart to see what uses that size tap drill. I was surprised that the plug wasn't the same as the one in the bottom of the clutch housing. Too bad. I had two extra of those. ๐Ÿ˜ž
