I would do a welded metal bypass or cap off the oil cooler lines and remove the bypass plunger and spring. under the oil filter.
I would want to verify the bypass only served the cooler and not the filter, I have had one apart but do not remember the details.
There are plugs from Cat to plug the holes on the filter housing. Two 2D2182 plugs and two 8B3410 gaskets. Book shows the sring removed from the bottom plug but the plunger is still used.
Just connect the output to the input.
My D6 just has like 2-3 inches of hose connecting the output to the input since I have no oil cooler.
Get "dash 10" (-10) O-Ring Face Seal plugs from Hydraulic Fittings source. They a 1"-14 tpi straight thread along with some pipe dope. On mine I remove the bypass spring and plunger.![]()
OM,
That looks like a tidy and easy solution. I just want to confirm though, so as not to risk messing up any oil flow in the engine, that both the plunger and spring are removed from the filter base? That would conflict with what Rome said above to remove the spring but not the plunger.
Just want to make certain so as not to risk the engine.
Thanks.
Thats what the late D2 parts book shows, just the plunger and no spring. Not sure if that makes any difference leaving the plunger in or not, the spring would keep it seated.
I don't see any point in leaving the plunger in there so I remove it as well.
