Hi Griz,
Olsen's would be best for you in the USA. Our Chapter 19 has these gaskets for sale in their large range of reproduction parts here in down-under Australia.
These days postage from here would be a killer for price comparison.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
Good day gemdozer. I just wanted to check in and see if you were able to locate the starter motor gasket 2A3463. It looks like Finning in Edmonton was able to find me a used dog so I should be good for that one. Just struggling to find the starting motor gasket. Thanks.
Looks like I misread that part number in the manual for the starting motor gasket. I read it as 2A3463, but it's actually 2A3483.
And yes, I'm still looking, if anyone has one. I'm currently waiting to hear back from Olsen's. Thanks. 😁
Cat Parts . Com shows this gasket is still available. They even list a 'set' in the frequently bought together if you scroll down.
Boy that's helpful isn't it BlueOx - those are most of the gaskets needed for the D2/4 pony - pretty good!
neil,
I thought the Frequently Bought 'suggestions' were a nice touch, but next time I'm buying two and setting one back.
Didn't intend to hijack the thread, hope it gets Griz up and running soon.

Ok, I admit I'm stuck in stupid. I re-read the entire thread and still can't make sense of it in my mind.
Are you looking for the gasket that goes in between the bottom of the pony and the flywheel clutch housing - 5F9342 (Revised and available through CAT Parts), or did you remove the intake manifold on the pony - which would be the 2A3483 ?
I'm honestly not trying to be an ass.
sounds like what Hector describes (item 4) has come loose, or the 4 bolts (items 7) retaining the sleeve (item 5) to the pinion (item 8) have fallen out or are loose--not uncommon, or the rear shaft bearing has failed.
If you take the assembly apart be sure to align the latches to the larger diameter of the stop bolt (item 4) or else the pinion cannot latch over--the latches must not align to the flats machined on the stop bolt head--adjusted by verniering the sleeve (5) on the shaft splines to try for best location with full latch contact.
Hope this helps,
Eddie B.

Once I got the number right I was able to source it from Finning. I've got all the parts needed, just waiting for them to come in. Looking forward to reassembly next week. Thanks to all for your valuable input and support.
I'll update when she's running!

Eddie B. Can I ask where you got this image from? I have a parts manual as well as a service manual, but the service manual only relates to the diesel engine. Thanks.
Hi Griz,
from my yellow Servicemen's Reference Book, Form No 30524-2, covering:- Caterpillar Diesel Engines (4" bore, 4 cylinder) as fitted to/used as, D311 Industrial, D311 Electric Set, D311 Marine, D2 Tractor, No212 Motor Grader.
Page 260 which is in the Starting Engine section--way down the back of the book.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
