I just saw this on YouTube:

He has a paper oil filter inside a brass screen. Is that right? I thought you had one or the other depending on whether the housing had been updated for paper filters.

That’s correct. The bypass filter arrangement uses the brass screen to filter the bulk flow to the bearings and the paper cartridge to filter the bypass flow. In its time it was an improvement over previous types. The paper filter technology could not pass the full flow without being huge but could filter part of it through a reasonable sized filter. It was a step in the right direction.

Bypass filters are sometimes used today for the additional reduction in very small particles that are typically not removed by full flow filters.

Okay. It seems like a good topic for a Squatch253 video, hint, hint. 5J1113 is about ready for an oil filter.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
