If your Cat dealer doesn't have the right belt (you need a good parts guy....) I picked up some belts by size from vbeltsupply. All you need to do is measure the top width, bottom width (and figure the section) and then the outside diameter and match to their catalog
d2 generator belt 5b1925
3J Parts Book says it's a 5B0243 for the Generator
5B0243 is the correct belt for the D2 J series generator.
It is no longer available from Cat, measurement is 11/16' x 38.5", that is the measurement shown on the package, the actual outer width of the belt is 1-3/32''.
I have never found a direct replacement, but have a Dayco 28380 that is 38" and about 1/8" narrower than the Cat belt.
The belt can be properly tensioned by shimming the generator or the generator mount.
5B1925 is the pulley for that system.
