D-7 7m

I had ran into a guy who bought some property up the road from me. He told me that the property came with a old dozer. He had seen the several I have in my yard and asked if I could help get it going for him. I agreed. And went to take a look. The previous owner had tried to start it without luck. So they let it go with the property. He told me that if I can get it running and cut a trail to his pond through the brush that he would give it to me. Sounds like a deal to me. I first found that the electric starter for the pony was completely dead. And the hand crank was missing. I ran home made up a new hand crank for it and returned. With a shot of ether the pony lit off and ran momentarily. I did this before I added any fuel to the tank just to see i it would run. I then added fuel. Got the pony to fire then it flooded out and couldn't get it running again. Fast forward two weeks to today. I went with some fresh fuel line and sediment bowl that unfortunately didn't fit. I removed a wire they had run off the mag for some sort of alternative kill switch and after a couple cranks and some fresh fuel the pony lit right off. At some point something had broken the carb clean off the manifold and destroyed the governor linkage. There is nothing pertruding out of the carb to even hook the linkage to anymore. So it was a bit tricky, it took two people. The pinion is also out of adjustment and wants to pop out early. Definitely need a third hand. Had main engine cranking, oil pressure came right up. Cracked injector lines and almost immediately had fuel. Not sure how long it has been sitting but from what I gather probably at least 10 years. Couple min of cranking in full compression and she lit right off. It's always so exciting to get a old sleeping giant like this to wake up. I jumped on her and was able to pull her out of the shed and check the steering, brake, and blade functions. All performed well. It will need the main clutch adjusted but that seems to be the case when they sit for long periods. It has both a front and rear cable control units. Serial number 7M74SP.  I currently don't have any books on this piticular model. And I can't find any tags showing the shifter pattern. If anyone has a image of that and would share it would be greatly appreciated. Here's some pics just thought I'd share.

2 4

A early 3T book will suffice if you can’t find a 7M operators manual.

this from my 7M1 to 7M9999 and 3T1 to 3T 8058 grey OMI, Form No 10481-06, Dated 2-56.
On a point of SAFETY-- NOTE that the tractor will move Forwards in 5th gear without the Fwd-Rev lever being in the Fwd position--see notes in scan below.

Ok it's a standard pattern. That's good. I was unaware of the 5th gear situation. This is the first cat I've got with a reverser lever. Any idea what Special Parts it would have? I've read that usually means different ring and pinion gear ratio. Thanks to all! this site is great! Lots of good helpful people!

"Special Parts" could be anything in a fairly wide range of variations from standard, from different gear ratios through to lighting systems fitted at the factory or pretty much anything in between.

Congrats on the new dozer! That’s some machine. Finally got this old gal home today. Had to walk it about a mile yesterday. Left it on the side of the road until transportation came this morning. Essentially a freebie. And it was very close to home.
