Hi Dan,
looks good 😊 That canopy looks to be an original Cat style - wasn't aware they made them in D6 size - it'd look really good with new wood and canvas. There was a thread or two on here about folks restoring the canopy back to like-new status. I'd like one for my ag D2.
Cheers,
Neil

The ag canopies do look nice and offer decent sun and rain protection but remember they will not give much protection for falling trees and none for rollover protection. Not sure what the fence line clearing consists of, but something to keep in mind.

Neil, I purchased a ag canopy for a 9U and seen a few more for the D6s all on the left coast. Must have been more popular there.

Do those canopy's have a small extension off the front? It looks like the side timber goes forward on one side-other side rotted off?

They have a short overhang on both the front and matching on the back.

Old Iron - definitely not a ROPS : ) But for discing flat paddocks in the blazing sunshine, priceless!! : ) I'm one of those guys that likes going round and round using "most" of the available power - nice steady long pulls so consequently over the years I've had my share of sunburn. Sloooowly getting wiser (quickly getting older) so like to stay out of the sun these days.
Of course, I have to get the tractor going before a sun canopy will be of any use 😊
By the looks of the construction, it could probably be "fairly" authentically reproduced. I must look up those plans if they were loaded on to the BB.

Cheers,
Neil

The best plan on the ball joints is to take out shims under the cap if any are still in there. If that doesn't tighten them up, then you can grind off material on the cap or socket to make it tighten up the slack, but not bind on the ball when you tighten the cap up completely.

I think the drive end housing and the starter drive would have to be replaced on that starter before you can use it on a D318 engine. Still would be worth getting it as well as any solenoids, battery disconnect switch, cables etc. Generator is likely belt drive instead of gear drive that you would need.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
