I stumbled upon this accidently, hope you find it as interesting as I have. CTS
California Mining History often has little bits of Caterpillar, Holt, Best and other manufacturers involved. I stumbled on one in the Death Valley area that spoke of Yuba Ball Tread proposed to haul a single wagon of ore on a 50 mile round trip. The Yuba Ball was mfg. in Yuba City, Ca. using a unique system of balls in a race to support the track.
Hi, CTS.
Yes, and I have heard that people showing YBT tractors in parades these days sometimes pay young people to follow them through the parade picking up the balls that fall out of the guides during the parade. From what I hear, they weren't even as successful as the Cletrac Model F 'string-of-pearls'.
And I hafta wunda how many times they would have had to refuel during a 50-mile round trip. Would they have needed a second wagon carrying fuel?
A kew-ree-yuss mind would like to know.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
