My dad and I just picked up this grader , I love the patina and want to preserve the original markings and wavy caterpillar transfers . I am hesitant to just spray clear coat like products as they my peal off in the future . The right hand side has rements of san Francisco ranch near the front of the frame , any history would be appreciated . Pics aren't loading , ill try later .

Here in the UK I have seen old machines sprayed with thin hydraulic oil to preserve them and 'hold' the rust.
I also think that the petroleum product used to paint plough bodies to stop them rusting, which quickly sets to a non tacky, non oily finish would be good also, I don't know the name of it though.
That's a very nice looking grader.

Nice grader,

There was quite a lengthy discussion on Smok Stak( or was it here?, can't remember) about how to preserve patina on old machinery such as your grader. Lots of folks like Owatrol. https://owatrol.com/en/ That's their website. I have not tried it but have a project that I would like to try it on.

Good Luck

We have a product sold here called Penetrol. A clear coat type of rusy metal preservative that soaks right in.
If I remember I will post a photo of the tin tomorrow.
I am sure it would be available in other parts of the world.

At the last show in Pennsylvania, there was a well preserved IH wheel tractor. I asked what was used, it was penetrol. Paint on multi coats until you are satisfied. Haven't tried it yet,

Penetrol . I have used it for all purposes. As an undercoat on both poorly prepared surfaces, as a primer on newly sand blasted surfaces. Also as a covering clear coat over newly painted surfaces.
If applied after painting and fixing transfers it seals the transfers. Very easy to use as being clear mistakes cant be seen.
