Guys:

Have several D4 from the 50's and 60's here in our area that need to be saved. Years keep going by and they don't move from their silent resting places. Am contemplating adding a D4 with angle blade and even an HT4 Traxcavator. These would be used for clearing a walking path in the winter and moving a little top soil for expanding yard and orchard.

Looking for sage advice on the best manuals to start out with to cover these machines. I know the serviceman's manual would be a good start but what others would you suggest. Assuming there would be a fair amount of interchange between the D4 and the HT 4 Traxcavator may need three to make two good running units.

Thanks in advance for any pearls of wisdom. If I can help you on the Allis crawlers let me know.

operators instructions is very useful and a parts manual--but make sure it covers your serial numbers---not one that says 7u1 and up as an example

Hi, RPeck.
Serial #s: Left side of engine block towards rear, above starter pinion housing - left rear of steering clutch case. Both locations should have stamped aluminum tag rivetted to them. If the tag is missing, the numbers should be stamped into the metal where the tag was - look for the rivets or rivet holes. If there has been an engine swap at some stage, tags/serial #s will not match.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Howdy RPeck,

Sage advise given above, with your serial numbers you can locate most of what you need. Lots of sources for manuals: shows, ebay, and folks here on the board. I've gotten several for my machines from D4C Charlie here on the board. If you have any other questions the folks here are very knowledgable and eager to help. Post some pictures of your toys when you get a chance. Thanks.
