Lucky me, another fellow decided he didn’t wish to take the D2, so the Rio Linda folks asked if I would take it instead. I was apprehensive about fetching it, but it turned out to be an easy one. The nice folks offered to provide me with access to the building that has some more goodies to go with it. This D2 4U 42xx has sweeps for the tracks, so the vines glide over. I had to drag it thru the vineyard row with my 5U. Talk about a tight fit!
Big thank you’s to the Rio Linda/Elverta Historical Society and the donors; one of which is named Lynda, so this little D2 will be named after her!
JM - Looks like the seat is ready for a couple of "gunny sacks" and the pads need shined up a bit. Seeing the strap holding the frictions released is encouraging, maybe they are ready to be put to the test. Interesting adaptation to keep some of the vines out of the tracks.
Hydraulic unit it a plus, sure beats those old trip ropes for many purposes. cts
Nice tidy machine pretty straight as well
Years ago in Lodi the majority of crawlers were narrow gauge / narrow track pads with those angle iron vine guards. Might not have made it to the brochure published elsewhere, but standard northern San Joaquin County / Southern Sacramento County history.
I neglected to rummage through the tool box! I managed to find a few goodies. One thing looked like a homemade sack needle? I’m proud owner of the optional break away clips for a rope!
Freed the water pump, main engine turns nice, some other items greased and freed up. Main clutch has perfect “snap” and not sloppy at all. Clock showed about 4560 hours, and very legible.
Very tempted to pour some gas down its throat and try my luck; even the pony clutch and pinion snap over nicely.
Maybe I did well for a change! Cross my fingers! JM
Nice Catch in the tool box! cts
Nice tool collection there JM, maybe you need to crank the ol machine up and take the tools for a rattle to clean them up a little.
Yes Busso. Mag needs refreshing and pony fuel system cleaned out first. The majority of my CAT tools were found by rummaging through the toolboxes.
Some pics by the nice donor lady. It was comical, as she commented that I may have done this before, It looked too easy from her perspective. JM
