That's REALLY nice Randy! Why does it have a wide seat?

Randy mentioned the seat and said that he had seen a picture of an R-3 with a wide seat like his. Maybe it was his Cat in the picture all along!

The R-3 does look great, that's why I wanted to share the pictures. The owner, Randy, invited me over to his place to see it and I told him I'd share some pictures with the members of ACMOC. Randy doesn't do a whole lot with computers. He's had the R-3 in pieces for years and decided it was finally time to get it put together. I think a lot of credit needs to go to his sons for most of the restoration. They all did a fantastic job on it.

I don't know much about the seat. I asked him if he had gotten it from John Hahn, which he had, and that's when he said he had found a picture of another R-3 with the same wide seat.

Nice job on a hard to find Caterpillar😊 That will be a real eye catcher at the shows. Did that hitch come will all the R-3's I think that it was a special order option but not sure, enjoy it.

I got to thinking after finding out that R3Steve out in New York state told me he bought 2 of them near a State Park that maybe they were a Government ordered tractor as that Park had a huge CCC camp (actually several).
Then the guy in Virginia got his out of the mountains near where there were several WPA projects going.
If it was me and I wanted to find one of these tractors I would scour the US archives for WPA and CCC info where they may have had inventories of items allotted to the camps.
Just a thought!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
