This D4D is for sale near me for $10k. It's in my price range, it's the right size, but I'm confused by the blade hydraulics with the smaller cylinders and hoses going over the tracks. Any thoughts on this machine?

Hi, bulletpruf.

Thatza toolbar dozer, made so that you can disconnect the 'dozer blade, swing the push arms around to the rear so that they become pull arms and attach a toolbar to them behind the tractor. They will do a lot of 'dozer work but they are not as good for heavy dozing work as a REAL 'dozer.

The genuine D4D 'dozer was the first D4 with the blade lift rams mounted on the hard nose instead of on the tracks.

Might be a good idea to get a serial number and post it here for verification 'coz I faintly suspect that you might be looking atta D4c machine - doesn't appear to have the genuine D4D hard nose - which may mean that it also has the INFAMOUS 'buzz bomb' pony motor, known for self-destructing.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks for the quick response and the details. That's just the info that I was looking for.

That is a D4C, not D. If you decide to inspect it, the first thing I have learned to do is check the water pump pulley. The "snout" is long and heavy and the bearings could be sloppy. Water pump rebuilds can get costly and parts tricky to source sometimes.

That is a toolbar blade as Deas mentioned, so if you decide to play farmer, you can flip it around and add attachments for tillage.

Not often those unique cabs are seen here in America.

Keep us posted. Thanks! JM

Now Deas. I was thinking you were really on top of the game, calling it out as an earlier model. Then you fall in the rat hole of the buzz bomb. The second picture clearly shows it has direct start, no buzz to go boom. ( wink, wink) Or it has already given someone else the pain of a boom, and they did the smart fix. Hopefully they had glow plugs put on it too.

I need to type faster.

All kidding aside with everyone focusing on the pony motor in that series oi tractor. I have no idea how much less tractor a D4 C is than a D4 D model. Coming from ag rather the dirt moving the clutch and standard shift is no a problem. Defiantly see the advantages of power shift for dirt work.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
