I have a 951B shovel that I am currently rebuilding into a fine little banger, it is not to original as it sports chunks off 2 other shovels that I have been hacking up for parts, its now getting near the painting stage so I have bought the full decal set from Finning plus I am having it Sign Scripted in the old style this will also include the build date?? the Serial No is 69H1674 CAT parts service could not find this date for me, anyone have any ideas, I am looking for the Month and year as it makes a nice touch on the finished look.

I reckon you will find that its a 1972 machine, if Finning still have any records of 69H machines on their database, you should be able to narrow it down a bit.

Can't help on the month Tony...but the sometimes right book has has it as a '72 build, the range for '72 being from 69H 01310 to 01686.

Many thanks Catsilver and rusted for your reply, I think a good date might be November 1972?? then it's within a week or so on build, I can dig possibly a bit harder with a contact within the Finning Empire that might put the exact date to it, from new it was sold to a Co in Norway, it sported the Otterson (Klippan) style cab, the cab is now in China as I dont like Fowl-House's on kit, but I have left the Safety Cab mounting platform on the sides, as its handy for clambering about on, it also has the little ripper thing hanging off the back, I must admit to going a bit OTT with the little chariot as in its days its had hell of a life looking like it had been on a target range with all the chunks knocked out of it,its looking good now though.
