My very early 22 has a Zenith K5A that is leaking from sitting too long. I am going to get a kit and rebuild it. Are there any tricks to a K5A that are like the D2 pony lead seal or any other things unusual to look for? Any recommendation on a supplier? Thanks, Grant.
I would look at what part of the carb is leaking and focus on that. I have decided that perfection is temporary on something that isn’t operated often.
When I did ours, I didn't do anything special other than clean it and blow out the open passages and jets. Put a kit in it and it's work flawlessly since - 20 years or more and it only runs once per year. Starts on the first or second crank over every time.
If you take it apart, be careful not to break the venturi tube.
Yes, I have been warned about the venturi tube. I will be careful. I will take it off of the machine today and start removing what looks like 10 coats of paint. I think that I will take it apart before I start soaking in Carb cleaner. I dont know what the float material is, and dont want to damage it.
I am sure I will have more questions once I am into it. Thanks.
Morning GrantJ, greetings from South Africa. We are Third World here, so my question is , where do i get a carb kit for my 22 1j5125sp. Our Caterpillar dealer , Barlows are expensive and not help full with vintage stuff.
Thanks Wayne
You could try ebay if someone will deliver to Sth Africa. I've had some stuff delivered to my NZ address. Not all will do that but if you search multiple listings, you might find someone that will
When I removed the carb (and pounds of dirt on it) I discovered that there is something missing on the bottom assembly between the choke and the actual intake. It is an open threaded hole with nothing in it. In the parts book it shows what looks like a large thumb screw and it seems to be some kind of filter. It has probably been open for the ten or fifteen years that I have had the tractor, so I am thinking of just putting a pipe plug in the hole and not worrying about it. Any ideas???
I just went on Ebay and found over a hundred Zenith rebuild kits and not one of them said K5A. If I can find just a gasket kit, I think that I will start with that and only replace what needs to be replaced.
Try this one, Grant - https://carbkitsource.com/kits/ck0977.html#gsc.tab=0
Thanks Neil, I had run across that web address in my old Cat notebook and emailed them earlier today. I need to get some numbers off of the top of the carb. I dont recall seeing a tag, but there was so much paint and dirt that I could easily have missed it. Grant.
