I'm about to put my fuel cap (4A60) back together. Should I coat or paint it inside? It was a bit rusty, but I couldn't tell whether it had originally been sealed inside.

I don't believe they were ever painted inside as they were always metal color when we put fuel in them years ago. If you plan on coating it with something I would sandblast/ glass bead the inside first so paint will not flake off and get it the fuel in the future.

i would just give it a squirt of lanolin spray let it soak in and wipe off the excess. every so often give it another spray. do this after its been painted on the outside.
