I am interested in a Best 60 that has very good u/c but the tracks are frozen and the machine just slides.
I don't know how badly the tracks really are seized, ... thinking of maybe loosening the idlers and working
the tracks a little with a hydraulic jack to see if they will free up any ... and then try to rock the 60 back and
forth with my D2.

ANY SUGGESTION WILL BE APPRECIATED

Hey r4dan,

On two occasions during Cat rescues of tractors with frozen tracks, while loading onto my hydraulic beaver tail trailer I successfully popped the tracks free. While dragging and skidding the tractors onto the trailer with a winch, the tracks would hit the bottom of the ramp and stopped forward motion. As I increased the tug on the winch to drag the tracks up and over the 1/2" lip of the ramp, the tracks popped free. On another rescue, I used two chains to secure the bottom of the rails about 1/2 way along the length and tied the to a tree to prevent the tractor from skidding away as I pulled on the front of the Cat with a bigger tractor. By holding the tracks in place and pulling the tractor forward it also worked to pop the tracks free.

As Neil states water is great to free pins up. I took a cat for a drive into a shallow creek bed with a frozen link to free it up. I've read here on this BB guys trying diesel and other stuff with no success, then trying water and it worked. So water and pull power. I wouldn't try using the power of the tractor that is frozen., damage could occur. Use power from another tractor until you get it to pop free first.

Good luck
Glen

On super bad ones folks have fought them off and soaked them in the farm pond for 6 months and had success.

Water works...also, chain to the top of the track & pull from there. It doubles the mechanical advantage. It took 2-1/2 hours to get my D2 loaded on the trailer when I got it, & almost that long to get it off. Water, big hammers, & pulling from the track will get you there...👍

normal water out of a tap works fine get a soaker hose you might use on your lawn and thread it thru the track chains and leave running for a few hours every day for a week or so
Then as described hook a chain to the grousers on the top and pull from there

I really appreciate everyone's input!

As I mentioned in my initial post, .. I am interested in buying this Best 60 which is a complete tractor with great u/c but the track chain is rusted / frozen.
I have discussed with the owner that I would like to try to free the tracks so we can roll the 60 and check the steering clutches before I buy because the engine is
also stuck and I can't check the clutches by cranking the engine.

Thanks a lot, R4Dan

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
