This weekend’s truck show has been CANCELLED due to massive rains received at the Amador County Fairgrounds!!!
Chapter 15 was going to display for their 40th Anniversary Show…
Please pass along the terrible news to any of your trucking friends that had planned on attending.
Thank you for your cooperation. JM
2.1 inches of rain here since Monday evening (4-20-2026 until 4-22-2026 at 12"30 pm) , this will put everyone back a few days before they can make dust and prep the fields. Some may be wishing for those steel shod machines, ground is pretty wet. With non cultivation in the orchards, ruts are not welcomed, the spraying will still be needed. - cts
I anyone has any extra rain they can share it with us in Western Kansas. Terribly dry here with only .34 inches of precipitation, including snow, over the past 5-1/2 months. I have never seen anything like it. Usually we get a couple feet of snow during the winter but this year under an inch. Lot of prairie fires this year. We started to vacate the farm 3 months back when one was headed our way but thankfully they got it stopped.

Sorry to hear that Jim. The snowpack here is below normal; the spring rains are welcome by most except for the cherry farmers and guys trying to plant rice. We will resume transporting greenhouse components Monday. The vegetable seed business is serious stuff. The customer has a professional fencing company install on 250 acre perimeter in less than 2 days. We must have a phytosanitary certificate before the job and after.
***For those reading this announcement***In spite of the cancellation of the ATHS Truck Show at Plymouth, CA (due to rains/flooding). The Veerkamp Families and volunteers have decided (last minute) to have a non sanctioned truck show at the Veerkamp Collection at 2585 Cold Springs Rd., Placerville,CA SATURDAY APRIL 25, 2026. Anyone wishing to participate can set up today, and show is all day Saturday, which includes free admission to view the machinery collections as well.
Big shout out to Doug and Matt Veerkamp, their volunteers, staff and family. JM
Definitely a big change in the weather when I left CA on Monday over what the weather was like over the weekend. Looke like some big hail hit some of the areas around Sacramento, never good with cherries and many of the other crops. I can't think of any farmer in the valley that was welcoming of spring rains. It always seemed like after you had first cutting about ready to bale it hit hard, or even worse you got it baled and you have to go out there and flip bales to get it to dry. Many of the direct seeded vegetable crops just a little rain was death to the crop many time since you needed such a fine seed bed for the small seeds you had to run a power mulcher / incorporator out there and the rain would turn that to a concrete crust. then again you had to find the lightest tractor to get out there and lightly break up the crust even then you would end up with needing a D8 to bring up 5 gallon bucked sized clods come fall. Then to get away from that problem everyone went to transplants even then you were stunted for weeks if you could get them into the ground. Come harvest since everyone was in the same boat with delayed planting / delayed growth the canary couldn't keep up so what ever you saved was lost later in the year to over ripe. If the (dry) beans were emerging during this type of rain you'd get a fungal problem that would hurt you until harvest... if you were lucky I have seen many fields get tore out and replanted due to this issue and the ones that didn't sure wished that they did. The only time that I ever say anyone in the valley happy over this kind of rain was back when the corn prices were high and planted everything in grain corn and was happy that the corn like that kind of rain.
