Kurt, not that it matters, but I never saw anything but a straight pipe on starting engine, let alone a muffler on the diesels!

The rain trap for the U model D2/D4 starting engine, 8F3821, 8F3822, 8F3824, 8F3825, may be hard to find. There is also a spark arrestor that is used on the pony engine available, sometimes required by forestry, it is not a rain trap and will need a flapper cap, the one on the left is the one sized for the pony, its the 1AA Hapco model by Harco, you need to specify the inlet/outlet size when ordering.

Thanks, I haven't seen the spark arrestors before. I have one of the rain caps on my 6U D4 and wasn't expecting they are readily available! CT, I have mufflers on both the D2 and D4, look original in both cases, I haven't looked for part # on them, but are the same shape as shown in the parts books.

Yes, Chapter 19. Pricey but very nice. Only have one of those gems here of all the pony start machines. They mellow out the starting noise!

The spark arrestor is sweet!

I put a full blown muffler on my pony - can actually think while it's running : )

The rain caps do diddly for sound attenuation even though they look like little mufflers!

Keep in mind that’s Australian dollars, so it’s a little less in American. I just bought a track gauge from them and it came just the other day. Good folks!
