I just watched an episode of American Pickers. Mike and his brother were in Washington state looking through a mans collection of turn of the century equipment. In one shot, they were standing behind a a machine that had what appeared to be a steering wheel off to the side, and across the back was the undulating caterpillar logo. It was not wide enough of a view to see if there were tracks, I did not see a seat. On the very rear, maybe a foot behind the logo were several levers.

Did anyone else see this episode? What was the machine?

Matt:

That is a Holt Midget and yes, the seat is off to the right hand side off of the back of the machine.

I saw the yellow crawler loader but can't place the undulating logo?
He restores BEST based on his comments about wheels for one.
Someone must know him?

They had a good time running the Avery( Peoria made) steam engine. I am sure many from this list up that way will know this collector.

Biggest 2 results of that show are they artificially drove up local fleamarket prices and second is they have shown that there is a guy in N/S Carolina, Indiana and this guy in Washington (probably a few more too) who haven't let GREED of scrap prices clean them out of many rare and unique items.

I do know that when the pickers came thru here (NC) back in the summer that things are not always as they seem.

Before the pickers come by at an appointed time, first their producers go and look thru things, stage items, and pre-arrange what the purchase price will be.
Now this might not be the case for every stop they make, but for the two that i know of here in NC that was the case.

Still I like to watch the show just so i know that there are many more people in the go ole USA that have way more junk/treasures than me!

Now as far as some other guys that you see on TV Loacted here in NC, Like the Bobby from Swamp Loggers, and Dale from the Wheels Through Time Museum.
These guys are just as they seem on TV, both are very nice and very willing to share their love of what they like to do!

I enjoy watching this show. My nephew writes video games for these shows. But you are right it is set up. But I still enjoy it. A couple of weeks ago They were in Virginia picking and it seemed strange that the person they were picking had a sign for the company I work for. Which is a Midwest company. The closest they come to VA in Ohio. The fellow they were picking had Buck's Recycling shirt on. I Google d Buck's and found it was in the middle of IA and found out they were picking in IA not VA. I spoke to John Davidson who they picked in Kenosha WI. Erik you are right one item they bought they had to hide in another room to make it look like they discovered it. Still like the show and Abandoned. Brings back memories of moving old machines out of closed factories.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
