I've been following lil cat mec's thread with interest and decided I should check my clutch and clutch brake adjustment. I have the operators instruction manual but the procedure described is for a top seat and doesn't look like it will work on my tractor so I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice on how to go about it. The clutch does work but I get a bit of grinding trying to engage the gears.

This is what my linkage looks like.

As near as I can tell this nut rotates/moves about 1/2 inch between the lever being all the way forward and then backwards to where the throwout bearing just touches. It's hard for me to tell what the rotation on the shaft is but maybe 10-15 degrees. The travel at the top of clutch lever is about 16 inches. I was wondering if this is about right.

With the clutch lever back to where the throwout bearing just touches, I have a 1/8 inch gap on the clutch brake so it looks like I should adjust that to 1/16 inch.?

With the clutch lever all the way forward the gap is about 1/2 inch, I hope that's normal?

The tractor is serial #2F 237 and thanks in advance for any and all help.

hello 22Randy ,the clutch brake pad looks good ,the same adjustment as the other ,the pedals i would just take the slack out of the turn brakes and main clutch so the pedal only travel a shorter distance if they need it ?,hope that makes sences lol ,bruce oz

Thanks for the reply Bruce. Just to be certain that I understand you correctly, I should go ahead and set the clutch brake gap to 1/16 inch but leave the main clutch setting as is? You mentioned pedals but my tractor uses a hand lever for the main clutch and the book doesn't have information about what normal travel should be.

hello 22Randy ,yes adjust the levers so there is not to much travel before they ingage .if the travel is to far on the lever they will not egage before they hit the end of there travel ,,the clutch brake looks like it is ok ,dose it change gears ok or grind ? ,if there is a bit of grinding it maybe from grease / oil ,but if clean adjust them -- set the clutch brake gap to 1/16 inch ,bruce oz

Okay thanks Bruce, I set the clutch brake to about 1/16 inch today but it looks like the clutch hand lever travel is what it is. The only adjustment that I can see is the threaded connector that connects the rod to the lever but it only has a couple of threads left before bottoming out.

This is the lever in its forward position, I use a bungee cord to hold it there or it would just fall back and rest on the throwout bearing and I'm afraid that might wear the bearing more.

Here is the lever in its rear position just resting on the throwout bearing, you have to pull it back further to release the clutch.
