Okay, I know this has probably been covered 100 times before on here, but I need a little help. My 955 had been cranking wonderfully off of the pony until now. When you pull the handle it latches over center, but doesn't turn the diesel. I pulled the pin out at the clutch arm and tried to engage it there by hand with no results. It doesn't appear to be doing anything. If the pony clutch needs to be adjusted, which way do I turn it? I know to take off the cover, and pull out the little pin. I just don't know which way to turn it, or if this could even be the problem.

Worst case senario: What electric starter am I looking for? It does have the hole in the clutch housing thank heavens!!!!!!

My wild guess would be that the clutch is fine but the pinion gear or ring gear has problems? :noidea::noidea:

I sure do hope your wild guess is wrong. Is there any way to inspect either one of these? I may go for the pinion being messed up, however we pushed it off with my 7 and used it for a few minutes. It is still doing the same thing. So, I don't think the chances are very high that the ring gear stopped in the same spot. Although I could be wrong. I may try to bump it to turn the diesel a little and try again. Wow, if it is the ring gear, this thing may be going bye bye.

since you ran the diesel and its still doing the same i would say the chances of the ring gear being bad are very low--most likely the pinion or pinion shaft assembly---do you have an inspection plate on the clutch housing to see the end of the pinion assembly??

Jeff,
Do you mean the starting motor clutch?Just turn adjuster until it snaps over when you pull clutch lever.
Good luck

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
