Hi folks, been a while.
hope you all are well.
I've been using my old d2 cat lately, and looks like I may need to replace the main clutch.
The dozer is the later model, so It looks like I don't have to split the tractor. (comes out the top)
I called Florin and I got a quote, new parts. (some times you pay for what ya get, lots of money tho)
they have new
the following
New A/M:
1 2F5828 PLATE
1 5F7434 DISC A
1 8F3041 PLATE
1 1B1069 SEAL

Is there any thing else I should be replacing while in there?
it appears the springs are not available or any other small parts.

Can you give me some advice on this replacement parts group, that may not be available from Florin (Great company)

am I missing anything?
I have not tore anything apart yet, I'm sure its all wore, could be an adjustment, but this would be a worst case scenario.
serial number 5U 17220
If I it must be done, may as well do it right.
(the clutch lever doesn't snap, and it only engages about half way back, if I pull further back it stops.)

thank you very much.
Scott

Sounds to me that it needs adjusting. Have you ever done that??

Scott,
When mine was giving me trouble (don't recall what it was doing, I think it was not releasing and not snapping over when engaged) I found that the drain plug was plugged and there was excessive oil on the clutch. I put a non-vented plug in the bottom and poured some diesel in the clutch compartment and drove it around a little then drained out about 30 years of gunk, flushed it and adjusted. It works fine now.

Yep... spin the adjusting collar a notch or two and get her to snap over cleanly; I would expect she will stop slipping.

Don't fix it if ain't broke!

I thought it was around mid 1953 that the D2's were lengthened so that the clutch could come out the top??

yes guess it is a 53.
I wish the steering clutches could be replaced with out taking finals off.
to bad.

I will be taking a closer look at the main clutch this weekend.
Hope its just an adjustment, but most things that I run, or do, seem to go the hard way.
Ill be pleasantly surprised if its an adjustment.
Its been many months since I used this thing, boy I love it.
fun to work.
finally feel like doing some work around the place.
pony runs great, after a lot of tinkering and a new mag. (sweet)
wish I had the same dozer, in the d4 size tho. still does a great job after all these years.
amazing Engineering
I see a d2 on e bay for 14 grand, you could end up doing that, to re-do an entire unit I think.

ill let ya know how it comes out on the main clutch.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
