Just to keep us on our toes we have decided to tackle the 3204 engine "water in the oil" problem with this. In the past, we have encountered a porous block with this model of engine, however, head gasket being the first thought on this unit. Before we commence with removing the head would i be right in saying that there is another possibilty, that being water can travel into the oil through a water connection in the front cover, this being an option would you suggest we remove the front cover and check as i see no way of testing for this particular faliure?
This will almost certainly require us to replace the sump gasket, is this possible on this engine as fitted into a D4H tractor??

Gordon, It seems to me the only time I have ever had waterin the oil on one of my D4E SAs is there was a water pump problem. I can go back through my maintenance records to verify for sure. I can check on Monday.

D4E, yr D4 has a gear driven water pump so if the gland seal fails the water will enter the oil. The 3204 engine has a belt driven water pump and therefore no direct conection with the oil. The 3304 engine you have is bullit proof ! one of the best.
