Hello One and all

Just a couple of days ago I attended a farm clearing sale here in New Zealand. At that sale a "Cat" 2U D8, Serial No 23010, very tidy, all complete and in good running order - fitted with a genuine "Cat" U blade, winch operate from a very tidy NO 25 cable control all in good operating condition. Even the upholstery on the seat was in nice order as were the gauges etc. Rope start pony engine. Track gear 45%, sprockets showing some wear, rollers good, front idlers were also in good condition.

When the tractor finally went up for auction bidding was very brisk - starting at $12,000, from there it went up in a continuos flow of $1,000 bids - this went on until it was finally sold to the successful buyer for $40,500 N Z Dollars !!!! The tractor had been originally owned by the NZ Government from new and was delivered new in June 1953, the same year that the tractor was built.

Regards to you all where ever you may be.

Not reached those heights in Aus yet but values of Cat machines of that vintage continue to climb here. A D47U sold for 20k recently - fully restored and D2s are going for between 6 and 20k (restored). At this rate somebody is going to start a healthy business importing them from the USA!

For d2's and d4's that high well I can see now why you guys are trying to buy from the states and bring there.

Hi Alan, I have a theory about those prices which is that there's just not that many pieces over there compared with here, meaning not as many per capita

Being as I don't have much money, I always thought that it just naturally fell to the bottom so there is more money to spend down under. Just a theory though. 😉😉
