Hi there, not sure if this is the right place to post this. I've been a member on here a while and finally purchased a early 1938 D2 3J.

I am very excited, but need some help. Brief background on me, I used to live in southern california zip93101, and I've been to the legendary paso robles Santa Margarita antique farm machinery show 3 times. It has been an annual event for me. My good friend Chris has a 1950's Cat D8 that I always help him get started up every year. So fun! Long story short, I moved to western NC now and just bought this D2 that's located in Massachusetts.

The D2 is located in Northfield, MA middle top of the state. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Northfield,+MA/@42.8889957,-72.666095,7.4z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x89e13c0cf0b37eef:0x166106d1254408f!8m2!3d42.6959093!4d-72.4528885

I was wondering if any forum members could recommend a mobile tech or someone nearby that area willing to help get her started up and assist with getting it loaded up on a trailer? It should run and move on it's own. But I can't say what it will take to get her going. It utilizes the rope pony start method. I contacted Milton Cat, but they didn't seem very willing to help...so I'm trying on here.

I was told the pony and main diesel was successfully started over the summer but probably hasn't actually moved or been driven in possibly 10-15 years, not sure! Previous to that, it was used for a logging out a wooded section of property where it currently sits. The following work was done to it before it has sat for a number of years with covered tarp: New Engine Sleeves and Piston Rings, New Main Clutch, New Steering Brakes, New Grouser on Tracks, Upgraded to hydraulic lift with D4 pump

Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.
-Jonathan

Hi--i get up to the west end of Ma about once a month---you may want to send a PM to HFDZL ---who is in pioneer valley which i believe is just south of Northampton on I91---best to wait until spring as there is a bunch of snow on the ground and it was 7 below Monday and today.
I have a lot of vacant land in Hancock if you need a place to store it a bit

the problems you may run into is frozen tracks, frozen steering clutches,etc---I assume you bought it sight unseen so there may be unknown issues.

Hi, eisenhart.
That is a nice-looking tractor - so far. How-wevver, I would NOT recommend driving over bumps very hard with that blade and hydraulic set-up or you might find your radiator and the front of your engine on the ground. Those tractors were NEVER designed to carry a blade - or anything else heavier than the front-mounted hydraulic tank - on their noses 'cos there is NO chassis or sub-frame to support it.

I CERTAINLY would NOT try prizing any rocks or stumps out of the ground with it or try lifting it while pushing a tree, however small, 'cos there would be a VERY good chance of breaking the engine block off either in the flywheel housing area or just ahead of that.

That is why Cat put the blade lifts for the D2s and the D4s up to the FIRST 'C' series D4s out on the track frames - where the blade load did not weigh on the engine or the equalizer spring.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thank you Deas! You probably wouldn't remember meeting me, but I remember meeting you at the Santa Margarita ranch show, I think it was the 2017 show. My friend Chris introduced me to ya! I'm so glad I have you experts to guide me. This isn't the right D2 for me and technically the sellers ebay description and old photos didn't accurately describe the tractors current condition. It is probably going to be relisted on ebay again if anyone is interested in it. Pretty certain the seller will take any reasonable offers as he is in a pinch to liquidate an estate by a certain date. thanks again ya'll!!
