We have a twenty five (4C466) that we believe to be a military tractor. It has many of the options that a military twenty two would have (wide gauge, front tow hook, rear pintle hitch, aux. oil filter). Our friend Mr. Bill Mancus also believes it to be a military tractor as well, and I tend to believe him as he has a military twenty two. It also has 2 matching stamped steel tags that are now illegible on the sides of the seat box where the traditional caterpillar decal would’ve gone. Has anyone ever seen a picture of a military 25 all painted up? My questions are these: 1) does anyone know any info on the military aspect of 25’s. 2) what the steel tags would’ve been? Maybe an old unit tag? And 3) were there any rules as to what would’ve been standard on a military issued tractor? Here are some old photos of it, 2010 Best of the west show to be exact.

Hi, CatAddict01.
Yer know, I seem to have some vague mem'ry of that show, think it mighta bin my first visit to Santa Margarita Ranch - when Tom Madden RESCUED EDGE&TA's proposed engine show from their 'less-than-ideal' negotiating and turned it into a REAL show. That seems to have started something.
Stamped steel tags from 1932 that are now illegible - GEEEZ, they don't maykem like they useta, huh? Some BRIGHT pink spray paint and a prompt rub over with a clean cloth just might leave enough paint embedded in the old stampings to help get some sort of a read.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
Bill has a restored military 25 and it’s been at Santa Margarita several times as it being memorial Day and a caterpillar show. If he doesn’t see this post, you should contact him. Skinner
Cat military Twenties and a Thirty, interesting that they used tail seat ones
And a second view
Skinner, I will do that. I remember him talking about his twenty five (and asking if ours was for sale ha). But I don’t think I’ve seen it in person. Figures, I can’t make it to Santa Margarita this year. If he brings it, could someone snap a few pictures. I would be eternally grateful.

Congratulations. I love that machine. No doubt it heard its share of gunfire. Dumb question but is it a gas burner
