I am machining new shafts, a bit oversized, for the front idlers on my TEN.  At 1 1/4”, I think the shaft will give me enough of an oversized to cut a few thousandths front the original bushings to true up the bushing bores.  What clearance should there be between the shaft and bushing? I am thinking I will be using grease , not 80/90, in the bushings.  I can use regular gun grease (like a “red and tacky”), track roller grease, or even “corn head” grease, all of them  are different thickness/viscosity, of course.

so what clearance to try for?  Just a wild guess, but I’m thinking minimum of 0.005?  Maybe go 0.010?  What’s your opinion?

thanks.  D6joe.

Most figures are in the .001 -.005” bushing clearance per inch of shaft diameter range.

i would use a ngli 000 grease so corn picker grease would be ideal
