D6 9U model with Upshaw cab?

 Ever seen that model before.

It would be very interesting to know who built it and the history behind the tractor, since there was a serial number on the bottom. Was this a wintertime project of an aged farmer? Hmmmm? It isn't perfect by means, but considering it fits in the palm of my hand and has so much detail, I am very impressed. It has garnered the attention of some others that I shared with, I have refused to sell it so far! NOT for sale! Last offer was $100.00 though, that would allow me to profit more than any real crawler I have let go here.

That is a impressive job. I am not really into models ether why I am only now finding this beauty. Was the picture of the real tractor part of the deal or did you just find that. Because it does have the northwest add modifications like large fuel cap besides the cab and air cleaner.

Ray54: I would love to find out who built it and get "their" history. As mentioned, I stood my turn to pay for my goodies, and if I had not been at the back of the line, I likely would have walked past it again. The prints are by Don Greytak, and per his website, no more of these particular numbered prints available. I have seen a couple of D-2 prints he created; wondering what other sizes of Caterpillar tractors he penciled. Aside from the 5 hour drive to get home, it was a great day. JM

Hey JM, I have a real one just like that, the cab is slightly different, but sure is a Northwest version of the 9u. TT.

Hello Juiceman, I know this is an old post but I just came across it while searching for something else. I wonder if that model was possibly made by Jim Upshaw, son of Kenneth Upshaw who was making the cabs. Jim is a very good model maker, crawlers and combines. Still lives near Colfax. Does the toy have a turbo? Seams like the dry air cleaners showed up when the real tractors got turboed or right after Mt St Helen’s blew her top. Very cool model. Mike

Just saw your post: I never paid any attention, so I had to take a gander. YES, it does have a turbo hahah, maybe its the "grader kit" many lust after for power!
I would love to know the history of the model, the maker and the real machine. It would be neat to find the real one in operating order. Thanks, JM.

I will ask Jim next time I see him. I was thinking that was a serial number but it is too many numbers for a 9U. Be neat to find out who’s tractor it was modeled after.
