Hi, gauntjoh.
I wonder just how many members of this 4um know what the tall, yeller contraption behind the Vickers VR180 (?) dozer in your first photo might be. I do know - never operated one but worked alongside a couple of them DowNunda back in 2006 - seemed to be good machines and I don't think anybody else ever made anything remotely like them.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Deas,Yes both the Vickers Vigor and the other machine are interesting, both attended the Sibbertoft event here in the UK.The Vickers has a Rolls Royce Diesel engine (180HP suoercharged) and a foot clutch linked to the decelerator. It was very fast compared to a D8 but sadly unreliability in the transmission and back end led to it’s downfall. There is a lot of detail on the Vigor in Richard Robinson's "Crawler Tractor Scrapbook part 2.

The Priestman (yellow machine in the background) is part hydraulic part cable and has a large moving counterweight to offset the weight of the large digging arm. Because of the length of the digging arm a cable was used to pull the bucket in towards the machine. They were popular with drainage boards due to the very long reach.

Ok it has been a year+ since you asked . Just cause we don't have much action on this page.  It looks like another excavator  in the second picture. But being a dumb farmer and not a professional dirt mover, I could be wrong.
