Looking to buy a windshield frame for a 1962 657 scraper. doesn't matter if it has glass or not. Restoring a 657 and an aftermarket cab was added, would like to put it back to the original open station. Any help is appreciated.

Hey Streamdrum1,

I have a couple of frames with glass. Can you give me a size? I'll see if they match.

Its a little tough to get good measurments with the cab still on, but looks like 34in across the front and the small sides that extend back towards the drivers seat are each 8in long. I will attach a picture of the scraper as it is now with rhe cab.

I see the Cat water tower in the background...that scraper doesn't look like it ever met the real world. I don't guess I've ever seen one without a ding in the tractor or bowl somewhere, especially one that old. Is there a story behind it or have you started your restoration already? It looks like the belly pan and radiator tank has been replaced already. Sure seems to be in fantastic shape.

The scraper really is in great shape. She was donated to the Decatur plant from a construction company in MN. One operator ran it for the past 30 yrs and it was really his baby and it shows. There isn't a whole lot that needs to be done to get it fixed up. I am a maint welder here at the plant, so I am taking care of the fabrication and any metal repairs. When all that's done she is gonna get ran down the paint line. I am trying to make sure it gets the correct paint color and going to have to find correct decals. Trying to convince them not to make it a static display aka lawn ornament, have to see how it goes lol!

I don't see where there ever was a ROPS on it, and on a 657 size scraper everywhere that I can think of it being used would require one. Maybe they just parked it and bought a new one when OSHA or MSHA required them in the early '70s and that's why it's preserved?

That cab looks good on there.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
