Thank you for the offer, 120 volt in the middle of wilderness won't work for me. Will have to stick with the rope for now.
Great idea though
Say, did you mean 12 volt instead of 120 volt ?

Try using an old aluminum 3-5 hp engine off of a lawnmower or edger. I used one with the handle attached to the head bolts and bolted to a small plywood base. Just set it on the fender and spin the pony with a v-belt. It works like a charm....

hi All, Yes i do not mind at pulling the rope on my old D4's but when they get stubborn i use this, it was made out of a Hillman starter.

Great ideas to ponder, thanks for responding about this subject
Thinking more along the lines of of building a setup like OEM would be.
I see where something that is portable, for those out of the way treasures, would be a blessing.
Or bring along the grandson, to be my "starter".😀

The first D2 that we ever owned when I was a kid had a six volt starter on it bolted to a homemade bracket to the right of the shift lever. The starter body faced the operator in the seat. I am thinking they mounted it on the right to turn the pony the correct way with the starter reversed. It had a ring gear added to the pony and to engage you just pulled the bendex in by an actuating lever on the starter. We never had a battery in it. We just connected jumpers when we started it. I believe it was an old Ford starter of the era when you stepped on the starter pedal to engage. It actually worked very well and with 12 volt connected it spun the pony at a super cranking speed.

I like it. If there was a towtruck for old cats that would be in the toolbox.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
