Maybe you could consider a retired race horse:first:, would run faster than a pony😉, think it would be difficult to rebuild an old pony.😆😆😆

They are the largest pony made by Cat and are unique to this engine. Early ones had Timken main bearings. Also there was no exhaust running through the intake of the big engine.

the easy way to tell is they or some have a flywheel with a hole in it for a bar just like a sixty.

Many years back I heard of a large Cat gen set way north from home here in SE Qld ,,, got some pic sent ,,, turned out to be a D17000 ,, with a large gen set attached ,, the gen set is UK built ,, has LONDON stamped into it ,,,, was running a saw-mill . But has an extra engine tag fitted giving the LIMA shovel #s. . She has the bar holes in pony flywheel and luckly also an electric starter for pony .. ... Best wishes pete ps will go get couple pics of pony !!

Looks to be a later unit with the tapered pony flywheel and also it has the riser boxes between the cylinder heads and the valve covers. Would be neat to have the electric start for the pony though. I am getting to know mine more and more each year I play with it. I can get the pony started quicker each time, always worried to flood it but have realized it likes gas at the beginning. These are such fun engines to play with.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
