I saw a video on YouTube with a D6 9u that was turbo charged and I would love to turbo charge my tractor . I know they didn't come factory with a charger but I wasn't sure if some company like M&W didn't make one. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yea they did. This is in a high serial# 8U parts book, couldn't find my 9U but they are the same engine. There are different turbos and oil lines and a different air filter.

Chad,

Late model SN#28,000 series 9U D6's were availble with a turbo. These would have been 1959 model year machines just prior to the introduction of the D6B which could be ordered with a Turbo. The D6C came standard with a Turbo, different engine arrangment than the D6B.

Halton Cat out in Oregon used to build a kit for the 9U's, not sure if they are still availble or not. In addtion to the turbo some guys added the gradder kit fuel pumps for more horsepower. Western States Cat also use to build a turbo kit, but that was some time ago. Having the tractor with the turbo will make considerable difference power wise. What you will need to be a where of is that it will build more heat if your working it hard, best to keep a close eye on the temp guage. Some guys added oil cooling to the bottom of pistons when they added the turbo.

There are several 9U's running in Eastern Washington, Oregon and Northern Idaho with Turbo's. You might find one for sale.

The standard turbo "grader package" on the D318 came out with the #14 model 78E & 64C graders. Was rated for 150 hp. The engines were considerably modified to accomodate the hp.

The "Northwest Turbo packages" were more for modification of regular D318 engines where fuel economy was more desirable than the slight gain in hp.

Here is the blurb in the Halton package:
Don't think any are available new anymore.

I've looked everywhere all over the USA trying to find a manifold and I'm having no luck, would anyone have any idea of someone that might have one?
